Information requested

You asked Firstly, how many current employees of the Scottish government at the present time ‘who have self-reported as having a disability that they identified as hearing impairment’ actually wear a hearing aid in at least one ear?

Secondly, What number of the current employees of the Scottish government at the present time ‘who have self-reported as having a disability that they identified as hearing impairment’ have had their ‘self-reported’ hearing impairment independently validated by a qualified medical professional?

Thirdly, of those current employees of the Scottish government at the present time ‘who have self-reported as having a disability that they identified as hearing impairment’ and have had their ‘self-reported’ hearing loss independently validated by a qualified medical professional, how many of these employees had hearing impairment that met the definition of disability set out by the Equality Act 2010?

Response

We do not capture this information. When a member of staff declares that they have hearing loss or impairment we do not require them to declare any information on what aids they do or do not use.

We also do not require any external validation or confirmation of hearing loss or level of hearing loss when a member of staff wishes to declare a disability linked to hearing.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested. The reasons why we don’t have the information are explained in the Annex to this letter.
