Re-conviction statistics for male offenders: FOI release
Information requested
I am writing to request information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002.
In April 2026 I submitted an FOI (ref no.202600514951) requesting reoffending rates from 2018 to the most recent cohort. I received a comprehensive document, which I thank you for. However, I note that figures for 2022/23 are now available so should appreciate an updated document. To clarify
For the most recent offender cohort (2022/23) , please provide the following:
1. Age (bands 20-80 years) at index conviction, using the narrowest age bands available; index offence group; and length of sentence imposed for the index conviction, using the sentence-length groupings held in your underlying data.
For each breakdown, please provide:
1. The total number of offenders
2. The number reconvicted within one year.

I enclose a copy of the information you requested.
An exemption under section s.38(1)(b) of FOISA applies to some of the information you have requested. Values between 1 and 3 have been suppressed to prevent the identification of individuals.
Please note: When a new year of reconvictions data becomes available, the data for the previous years is also updated.
This means that there may be some small changes to numbers from previous years, especially the more recent ones. For this reason I have attached the data you requested back to 2012 to 2013.
