Information requested

All documentation held by the Scottish Government, including correspondence sent and received (including internal), minutes/notes from meetings, briefings and analysis, about John Swinney attending the Women's Scottish Cup Final on May 25, between April 25 2026 and June 10 2026.

Response

Some of the information you have requested is provided in the attached document. This is an invitation for the First Minister or Sport Minister to attend the Women’s Scottish Cup Final.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested. The First Minister did not attend the Women's Scottish Cup Final. Officials were already aware that the First Minister was not available and so the invitation was passed to the Sport Minister. There is therefore no further documentation regarding the First Minister’s attendance. This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.

Maree Todd, Minister for Mental Wellbeing, Public Health, Sport, Alcohol and Drugs, did accept the invitation to attend the Women's Scottish Cup Final, so we have included the relevant information around that. Exemption under section 38(1)(b) of FOISA have been applied throughout. Disclosing this information would contravene one or more of the data protection principles set out in Article 5 of the UK General Data Protection Regulation and section 34(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018. In particular, the individuals concerned would not reasonably expect their personal data to be disclosed into the public domain in response to a freedom of information request. This exemption is absolute and is therefore not subject to the public interest test so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
