Transport investment in Greenock and Inverclyde: FOI release
Information requested
Information about investment allocated to my Greenock and Inverclyde constituency from the Scottish Government in relation to your [Transport] portfolio.
I am keen to obtain for each financial year since 2016, (a) how much funding, and (b) for what project, has the Scottish Government provided investment.
I appreciate some Ministerial portfolios and departments have changed since 2016, but I would appreciate the information for what you can provide

While our aim is to provide information wherever possible, in this instance, the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. This is because aspects of Transport investment cannot be disaggregated on a constituency basis from wider expenditure, meaning that we do not hold details of all investment by geographical location.
For example, there have been significant sums invested as part of Network Rail renewals, operations and maintenance. However, we do not hold details of this expenditure by geographical location.
Other information relating to Transport investment is reported on a local authority basis, meaning that it is not possible to calculate this on a constituency basis. For example, Inverclyde Council was awarded £25,000 in 2023-24 via the Community Bus Fund. Further information is available on the Transport Scotland website.
Similarly, relevant roads investment is calculated on a route, rather than constituency, basis. Since 2016, we have invested over £17.9 million into the A8 trunk road and £58.8 million on the A78 to ensure their safe and efficient operation. In 2024-25, over £5.5 million was invested into the maintenance of both of these routes. However, we cannot provide precise detail on how much of this expenditure related solely to the Greenock and Inverclyde constituency.
This is formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested.
Information Otherwise Available
Some of the information you have requested is available from the Transport Scotland website. Under Section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you. If, however, you do not have internet access to obtain this information from the website(s) listed, then please contact me again and I will send you a paper copy.
The information exempt relates to annual reporting on grant payments. Under Section 70 of the Transport (Scotland) Act 2001, “Scottish Ministers shall, not later than three months after the end of the financial year, lay before the Scottish Parliament a report on grants and loans made […] during the financial year.”
You can access Section 70 Reports on the Transport Scotland website.
