Information requested

1. The current pay bill for HR staff within DG Corporate.

2. The pay bill for HR staff within DG Corporate as it stood one year ago.

3. The total HR costs for the Scottish Government when HR functions were included across other DGs (please specify the date or period this relates to in the information provided).

Response

We have interpreted pay bill to mean the annual cost of HR staff and have therefore used financial years to provide the information requested. Furthermore, our interpretation of pay bill includes salary costs, employer national insurance contributions and employer pension contributions.

1. The pay bill for HR staff within DG Corporate in the last full financial year 2024/25 was £19,156,959.30.

2. The pay bill for HR staff within DG Corporate in the previous financial year 2023/24 was £18,933,735.77.

3. While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested. This is because HR is a central function, within DG Corporate, that services all the Director General areas in SG Core as well as providing a range of HR Shared Services for a number of agencies and Non-Ministerial bodies that make up the SG Main bargaining unit (see Annex A). This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.
