Response

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Public Pensions Agency does not have some of the information you have requested.

The answer to your questions are:

How many Police officers have been retired on ill health grounds in the past 12 years?

In total, 757 Police officers have retired on Ill Health (IH) grounds between 22/10/2014 to 03/10/2023.

Section 17(1) of FOISA (information not held) requires the SPPA to notify you if it does not have the information you requested. SPPA do not hold data before 22/10/2014, as Police Scotland administrated this scheme at this time. You can contact Police Scotland at FOI@scotland.police.uk

How many reviews of ill health retirement awards have taken place in the past 12 years?

Section 17(1) of FOISA (information not held) requires the SPPA to notify you if it does not have the information you requested. This is because SPPA do not conduct reviews of Police IH retirements. Whether IH is granted to a member or not, and at what level, i.e. standard or enhanced, is determined by the Scottish Police Authority. You can contact the Scottish Police Authority at FOI@spa.police.uk

How many officers have had their ill health award reduced or rescinded in the past 12 years?

Section 17(1) of FOISA (information not held) requires the SPPA to notify you if it does not have the information you requested. This is because the management of Ill-Health retirement, including any reviews, is a function of the Scottish Police Authority. You can contact the Scottish Police Authority at FOI@spa.police.uk
