Information requested

Please confirm how much money the Scottish Government has spent on the National Care Service Bill in the last year, broken down into each month from September 2022 to September 2023 (to date). Please also include all auxiliary spends.

Response

Below is a breakdown of the monthly costs on the NCS Programme from September 22 through to and including September 23.

Month Sep-22 Oct-22 Nov-22 Dec-22 Jan-23 Feb-23 Mar-23 Apr-23 May-23 Jun-23 Jul-23 Aug-23 Sep-23 Total Spend (£000) 805 689 1,158 907 1,050 1,474 3,789 705 415 684 906 812 635 14,029

The costs in Mar 23 are higher in comparison to the other months included due to the annual recharging of staff who support the NCS but whose costs sat in other areas of Government, alongside the year end accruals. Within 23/24 the approach on staff is to recharge at quarterly intervals, July 23 includes the first of these quarterly recharges.

The reversal of the accruals occurred in May 23 hence the comparatively lower figure here.
