Clarification in salmon farming reporting: EIR release
Information requested
Clarification of differences between industry and Scottish Government published production estimates.
Response
The estimated production figure published in the annual production survey reports are an industry estimate based on stocks being on-grown at the time the previous year’s production was reported. For the 2022 estimate, this information was provided at the beginning of 2022 when the 2021 production figures are being submitted and before the 2022 production year finished. The company figures you quote were published in 2023, after the 2022 production year was completed, so are based on more recent stock information from the whole of 2022.
Under our regulation 9 duty to provide advice and assistance under the EIRs we would like notify you that the actual 2022 production figure was published on Wednesday 4th October 2023 and can be found on the Scottish Government’s website: Scottish Fish Farm Production Survey 2022 - gov.scot(www.gov.scot).
