Notes:

Data are only currently available up to 2020-21 as this is the most recent publication of the Criminal Proceedings in Scotland bulletin. Data are from experimental statistics that are published alongside the National Statistics Criminal Proceedings in Scotland 2020-21 bulletin. The figures are based on data from the Scottish Courts and Tribunals Service (SCTS) information management system, rather than the other figures in the Criminal Proceedings publication which are based on data from the Criminal History System. Further details on this data can be found in the “Experimental Statistics on the Length of the Punishment Part of Life Sentences and OLRs” Supporting Document accompanying Criminal proceedings in Scotland: 2020-2021 - gov.scot (www.gov.scot). Data for 2020-21 are affected by the pandemic and subsequent court closures and may not reflect long term trends. The data in Table 1 are necessarily inclusive of the data in Table 2. I.e., everyone given a sentence of two or less years is necessarily given a sentence of less than four years.
