Social Security Scotland is an Executive Agency of the Scottish Government. All permanent employees are Civil Servants employed by the Scottish Government under their standard terms and conditions including for pay. Senior employees are part of the Senior Civil Service (SCS) employed by the Scottish Government.

Social Security Scotland is part of the Scottish Government Main Bargaining Unit (SGMain) for pay which is subject to the Scottish Public Sector Pay Policy.
