Information requested

"Does the Scottish Government have a record of how many farms are currently operational in each parish? If so, can you please tell me how many there are in the parishes of Cumnock, New Cumnock, Auchinleck and Ochiltree?"

Response

The Scottish Government does hold records on the number of agricultural holdings contained within individual parishes. This data is collected by the Agricultural Analysis Unit who work within Rural & Environment Science & Analytical Services (RESAS). I can confirm in 2021 there were 50 holdings in Cumnock, 75 in New Cumnock, 45 in Auchinleck and 80 in Ochiltree. You mentioned in your enquiry that the number of farms has reduced since the 19th century. To provide some additional context to this the number of holdings for these 4 parishes has changed very little since 1982, where there was 254 agricultural holdings to 250 in 2021. About FOI
