Information requested

"Please advise the number of women who received mesh removal surgery by month from January 2019 to present. Please advise if there is any double counting of the same person within these figures."

Response

I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested. Public Health Scotland who provided these figures do not hold information per month, nor for mesh removals only. Therefore, the information provided below is inclusive of removals and revisional procedures carried out in NHS Scotland. Revisional procedures are surgeries carried out to remove or repair transvaginal mesh which may be offered when a patient has complications from their initial mesh procedure. These include, but are not limited to, total removal of mesh, partial removal of mesh and oversewing procedures.

October 2018 - March 2019: 48 April 2019 - September 2019: 55 October 2019 - March 2020: 31 April 2020 - September 2020: 17

It is possible that a person has had more than one procedure but each would be recorded separately for inclusion in these figures. About FOI
