Information requested

What information do you hold on how much money was been spent by the Devolved Scottish Government on preparing businesses and infrastructure for the end of the Transition Period? Regarding this spending, what was the breakdown of the spending by industry. For example, how much was spent on the fishing industry compared to haulage or any other industry?

Response

From 2017-2018 to the end of 2020-2021, the Scottish Government received a total of £194.8m in EU Exit preparation consequentials. All of this funding, and more, will be fully utilised to meet EU exit preparation costs. All Brexit consequentials have been absorbed into and deployed across the overall Scottish Budget. Prior year spend up to 2019-20 is set out below. Spend for 2020-21 will be known after the end of the financial year. Funding will be continue to be deployed in future years to mitigate the ongoing impact of leaving the EU. The total cost of the Scottish Government’s response to Brexit will exceed £194.8m of EU Exit preparation consequentials. Due to the cross-cutting nature of much of the support and interventions the Scottish Government has made, differentiated breakdowns by industry are not held. Table 1:

Year EU Exit Spend (£m) 2017-18 2.1 2018-19 31.7 2019-20 60.5 Total 94.3
