Police Scotland budget allocated to iVPD: FOI release

You asked for the total funds provided by the Scottish Government to Police Scotland for the establishment of the iVPD (likely called the VPD at the time) i.e. the set up costs. The additional yearly funds that were provided to Police Scotland for the maintenance of the iVPD since 2014, including the costs for “weeding" i.e. the “ring fenced” funds were given to Police Scotland in each year since 2014 specifically for the maintenance of the iVPD.
Response
The answer to your question is that the Scottish Government provides the Scottish Police Authority (SPA) with an annual budget for running the SPA Corporate function, the SPA Forensic Services as well as maintaining the Police Service of Scotland. The SPA is responsible for the allocation of resources to the Chief Constable. Decisions on the day to day operation of the police service, including the allocation of funding to the iVDP within the Police Scotland budget is an operational matter for the Chief Constable to determine.
That said, it has been identified that, in 2014-15 the Scottish Government provided the SPA with £504,000 funding for national police ICT solutions that included iVPD. The specific funding made for this system is not available.
