Information requested

1) How many beneficiaries are registered with the Scottish Infected Blood Support Scheme? 2) How many are in each category? For example, HIV + Hep C, HIV, Hep C. NB please provide breakdown of chronic Hep C category to include severe, moderate and not affected. 3) Since July 2017, how many Scottish victims have died? 4) Since the last day of the Infected Blood Inquiry hearings on 28/2/20, how many Scottish victims have died?

Response

The answer to your questions are as follows. This is based on the most recent data we have from SIBSS so may not be fully up to date. 1) There are 540 beneficiaries are registered with the Scottish Infected Blood Support Scheme. 2) The numbers in each category are as follows:

Category Number Advanced HCV (Stage 2) 108 Chronic HCV (Stage 1) – no noticeable impact 96 Chronic HCV (Stage 1) - Moderately Affected 82 Chronic HCV (Stage 1) - Severely Affected 154 Coinfected / HIV 24 Widow/Widower/Civil Partner/Long-term cohabiting partner 76

3) Since 1 July 2017 up to 30 June 2020, SIBSS is aware of the deaths of 51 SIBSS beneficiaries, 47 of whom were infected beneficiaries and 4 were widows, widowers, civil partners or long-term cohabiting partners. However we do not have data on how many of those who died were Scottish or on whether there are Scottish people registered with other support schemes who have died. 4) Since 28 February up to 30 June 2020, we have been notified by SIBSS of the deaths of 8 SIBSS beneficiaries, 6 of whom were infected beneficiaries and 2 were widows, widowers, civil partners or long-term cohabiting partners.
