Number of employees paid exit packages in excess of £95,000: FOI release
Information requested
Details of the number of Scottish Government and Transport Scotland employees paid exit packages in excess of £95,000 from April 2016 to March 2018 including the number of such employees, the amount in each case, the department in which they worked and date of leaving.

All costs from the date of leaving the organisation to the normal retirement age are accounted for in the year the individual accepts an offer to leave or retire. The Scottish Government is then invoiced on an on-going basis for those staff who have received early retirement. It should also be recognised that the cost does not represent what individuals actually receive by way of pension and lump sum, as there are costs borne by the Scottish Government in relation to bringing forward the payment of early retirement/severance benefits which do not relate to payments made to individuals. While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance we are unable to provide some of the information you have requested because an exemption(s) under section of FOISA applies to some of the information requested because it is personal data of a third party, and disclosing it would contravene the data protection principles in Article 5(1) of the General Data Protection Regulation and in section 34(1) of the Data Protection Act 2018. This exemption is not subject to the ‘public interest test’, so we are not required to consider if the public interest in disclosing the information outweighs the public interest in applying the exemption.
