Response

The Gregg Violin programme included 21 events, in 5 cities in the US over the course of 16 days and was accompanied by two individuals from Scotland. David Hopes, Head of collections and Interiors at the National Trust for Scotland, who has responsibility for the violin, and Alistair McCulloch of the Royal Conservatoire who plays the violin. The celebration of Burns at each of these events allowed the violin to be played to over 1700 individuals live and thousands more via social media, podcasts and radio. The audiences included Scottish diaspora, schools, music centres, the business community, alumni, Congress and those working in the entertainment industry.

I include a breakdown of expenses in line with the information you require at Annex A. These expenses are in line with FCO guidance on allowances for each city visited. Please note that some expenses have been incurred in sterling (£) and some in US dollars ($). I have shown where this is the case at Annex A.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. We do not have the name of vendor information for six of the transactions because the vendor receipt was not retained so the specific detail cannot be provided. This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested.
