Information requested

Details of the sums paid or due to be paid by the Scottish Government to the Scottish Wholesale Association and the Scottish Grocers Federation (or their advisers) for the preparation of guidance in relation to the implementation of a minimum unit price for the sale of alcohol.

Response

We undertook extensive engagement with the alcohol industry prior to the implementation of minimum unit pricing in order to ensure that this was as smooth as possible. Some of the feedback we received during these engagement sessions suggested that guidance tailored towards both smaller retailers and wholesalers would be welcome.

We therefore provided £18,000 to the Scottish Grocers Federation to assist them in producing a bespoke guidance product for smaller retailers in Scotland. This can be found at: http://www.scottishshop.org.uk/latest-news/447-guidance-on-minimum-unit-pricing

We also provided £3,000 to the Scottish Wholesale Association to assist them in producing a bespoke guidance product for wholesalers in Scotland. This can be found at: http://www.scottishwholesale.co.uk/news/posts/2018/march/scottish-wholesale-association-guidance-note-for-wholesalers-on-minimum-unit-pricing-mup-and-licensing/
