Information requested

You asked for information about funding for any specific schemes, initiatives, research projects or bodies, intended to achieve or research increasing participation in higher or further education with a specific focus on gender.

You asked for separate figures for each category for the 2017-18 financial year, and previous four financial years, with brief details of each initiative supported and how they were allocated.

You only require details of specific schemes with a specific focus on gender, not initiatives aimed at increasing participation generally.

Response

I enclose a copy of some of the information you requested in the format you asked for.

Some of the information you have requested is available from http://www.employabilityinscotland.com/key-clients/women-and-work/women-returners/

Under section 25(1) of FOISA, we do not have to give you information which is already reasonably accessible to you.

While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, in this instance the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested. However, the Scottish Government does provide grant funding to the Scottish Funding Council and Skills Development Scotland to take forward specific priorities. You may wish to contact the Scottish Funding Council at info@sfc.ac.uk and Skills Development Scotland at extcomms@sds.co.uk who may be able to provide information on funding they have provided for projects and initiatives with a specific focus on gender. The reasons why we don't have the information are explained below.

The Scottish Government does not have the information you have asked for because the information is held by third party bodies. The Scottish Government provides funding to organisations like the Scottish Funding Council and Skills Development Scotland and it is for them to decide how they allocate this funding and for them to release this information. They will be able to provide you with further information on funding for any specific schemes, initiatives, research projects or bodies, intended to achieve or research increasing participation in higher or further education with a specific focus on gender.
