Clarification of employment and training budgets: FOI release
Information requested
You asked 'I would like to submit an FOI to define the role of the Employability and Training budget (aside from the £20 million set aside for the Scottish employment service) versus the Employment and Training Interventions budget; why the Scottish Government considers it necessary to keep these two budgets separate and whether the Scottish Government intends to combine them at any point'.
Response
The Employability and Training budget is part of the Economy, Jobs and Fair Work portfolio. It is classed as a level 2 budget, with level 1 being the Portfolio, and levels 3 and 4 providing the details of the programmes included within the Employability and Training budget.
The budgets are assigned to whatever Portfolio is most relevant. For example, The Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, has responsibility for youth work and skills, and the programmes included within the Skills and Training level 3 predominantly relates to this area of responsibility.
The Cabinet Secretary for Economy, Jobs and Fair Work, and has responsibility for employability programmes, employment policy, Labour Market Strategy, the living wage, fair work, inclusive growth and trade unions. The budgets included within Skills and Training level 3 relate to his area of responsibility.
There are currently no plans to combine any of these budgets.
