Information requested

You asked for further information around the Single National Formulary for Scotland. In the manifesto and online the dates and timelines are pretty vague with only advising 2018/2019.

Do you have any further updates on an expected date for this to be implemented across Scotland?

Response

The answer to your question is: we can confirm that the target is to implement a Single National Formulary (SNF) by September 2019. Work has been ongoing to bring together the project team who will deliver the SNF, form the governance groups that will oversee the work, before beginning the development of the formulary itself.

Over the remaining months of 2017 the project will begin work of drafting the first chapters of the new formulary. This will help us to understand the best process for preparing the formulary chapters. The process will help to inform the overall timeline of the development of the remainder of the formulary.

We expect that chapters will be released at various points during the project, so the SNF will therefore go live in stages as the chapters are approved, rather than having one specific launch date.
