Information requested

The cost of the Assisted Dying for Terminally Ill Adults (Scotland) Bill, eg in terms of civil servants’ time drafting it, consultations, print costs for the relevant documents.

Response

The Scottish Government does not hold information about these costs.

This is because the Bill was not a Scottish Government Bill, but a Member's Bill (the Member-in-Charge was Liam McArthur MSP). Costs associated with drafting the Bill, consultations on it, and printing costs for associated documents will therefore have been borne by the Scottish Parliament, through its Non- Government Bills Unit, not by the Government.

Supporting Ministers’, and Parliament's, consideration of the Bill is part of the core function of civil servants, and we are therefore unable to provide specific costs associated with that work.

Information, including contact details, for the Parliament's Non-Government Bills Unit can be found online at www.parliament.scot/bills-and-laws/about-bills/non-government-bills-unit.

Information on how to make an FOI request of the Scottish Parliament can be found online at www.parliament.scot/about/information-rights/requesting-information
