Social Security Scotland - Adult Disability Payment data consultation query: FOI release
Information requested
I was wondering whether Social Security Scotland had carried out any consultation on the production of ADP data with researchers, councils, the third sectors, etc. to see how it might meet their needs in developing policy responses and programme development? If a holistic system is indeed, the ideal, I would have thought that exchanging data and experiences and underpinning collective work should be a focus of activity.
Response
Social Security Scotland produce and publish statistics and respond to stakeholder requests, including considering developing stats publications, to better meet the needs of those stakeholder groups.
Statisticians have engaged with stakeholders in Citizens Advice Scotland to establish their data requirements, which has resulted in additional data tables on disability conditions being published as part of the Adult Disability Payment and Child Disability Payment quarterly official statistics reports.
Discussions have also taken place between Social Security Scotland statisticians and the Resolution Foundation, an independent think tank with a focus on lifting living standards in the UK, to help inform the Resolution Foundation’s short research project comparing trends in Adult Disability Payment and Personal Independence Payment in England and Wales.
It may be useful to know that on data sharing for statistics, we share data with the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) to feed into The Registration And Population Interactions Database (RAPID).
RAPID is a DWP project that captures an annual summary of employment, benefit and pension activities. Social Security Scotland benefits data are now included in RAPID, mainly disability and carer’s benefits. The most recent RAPID data, RAPID Release 9 was made available on 23 October 2025 by DWP and included the following Social Security Scotland data for 2024-2025:
Child Disability Payment Adult Disability Payment Carer Support Payment Pension Age Disability Payment
Child Disability Payment and Adult Disability Payment data were included in the previous releases of RAPID and Social Security Scotland continue to work with DWP to improve the range of data included in RAPID.
