Anti-social behaviour within the Scottish Crime and Justice Survey: FOI release
Information requested
Copies of any analysis, briefing papers, analytical summaries, datasets, or internal reports produced in 2025 by Justice Analytical Services, including the Safer Communities Analytical Unit, relating to antisocial behaviour involving e-scooters or electrically assisted bikes.
Response
While our aim is to provide information whenever possible, with one exception (see below), the Scottish Government does not hold the information you have requested relating to analysis, briefing papers etc. produced by Justice Analytical Services (including Safer Communities Analytical Unit) on antisocial behaviour involving e-scooters or electrically assisted bikes.
Whilst the Scottish Government publishes statistics on Recorded Crime in Scotland, the data provided to us by Police Scotland is in an aggregated format (based on a simple count of crimes and offences committed for any given time period). This does not include details on the circumstances surrounding antisocial behaviour or other criminal incidents and therefore based on the information we hold we cannot determine the number of incidents specifically involving e-scooters or electrically assisted bikes within the given total of recorded crimes.
Annex A attached details a reference to a request in 2025 to expand a question on antisocial behaviour within the Scottish Crime and Justice Survey to explicitly mention e-scooters in one of the question examples. This is the only formal reference within the scope of your request. For additional context, the survey question asks those taking part about how common they perceive antisocial behaviour is in their local area. From 2026/27, this will include how common respondents perceive ‘People causing a nuisance with motorised vehicles (including cars, mopeds, e-scooters)’. From 2025/26, this was worded ‘People causing a nuisance with motorised vehicles (including cars, mopeds, scooters)’.
