Query relating to the 2018 Strategy for Veterans: FOI release
Information requested
If the Scottish Government consider the terms of 2018 Strategy for Veterans, as a matter of course, in their political strategies such as providing funding or awarding compensation.
Response
The answer to your question is that we do so in a variety of ways. In January 2020, we published ‘Taking the Strategy Forward in Scotland’, which outlined how the Scottish Government would take the ‘Strategy for our Veterans’ forward and achieve the best possible outcomes for veterans and their families now and in the future. On 5 August 2022, we published a refreshed action plan, which detailed how we intended to continue to take forward the 'Strategy for Our Veterans' in Scotland.
Last November, the UK Government published a revised Veterans Strategy, which can be found here Veterans Strategy - GOV.UK. This is a collaborative, cross UK Strategy, which Scottish Ministers have signed up to delivering in the devolved space. We are currently developing a new action plan to deliver against the new strategy, which we hope to publish later this year.
We provide a detailed update to Parliament every year on our support for the veterans community. There is also an independent Scottish Veterans Commissioner who carried out independent assessments of support to veterans across the country.
