Scottish Government Ministers interactions with Large Language Models (LLM): FOI release
Information requested
Can I request the following information under the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002:
Any recorded transcripts, logs, outputs, or other documentation of interactions between Scottish Government Ministers and ChatGPT or any other large language model (LLM) from January 1, 2025, to June 18, 2025.
This includes any saved chats, screenshots, exported files, or other relevant records held by the Scottish Government. For clarity, this refers to generative AI tools capable of producing human-like responses to user prompts, such as ChatGPT (OpenAI), Claude (Anthropic), Gemini (Google), Copilot (Microsoft), or other comparable models.
If no such transcripts or outputs are held, please provide any policies, guidance, or records concerning the use of large language models by Ministers during the same period.
Response
This is a formal notice under section 17(1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have the information you have requested. This is because Scottish Ministers have confirmed they do not use LLMs (AI tools) for Government business.
Please see the attached annex for the guidance concerning the use of generative artificial intelligence (AI), such as ChatGPT in the Scottish Government.
