Scottish Government roles designated as remote or home-based: FOI release
Information requested
1. The number of Scottish Government job roles that were designated as ‘remote’, ‘home-based’, or otherwise eligible to be filled by individuals living outside Scotland.
2. Of those roles, how many were actually filled by individuals who reside and pay income tax outside of Scotland.
Response
The Scottish Government does not have any roles that are specifically designated as “remote” or “home based” or “eligible to be filled by individuals living outside Scotland”. All roles within SG Core are advertised with location details tied to a specific Scottish Government workplace or workplaces.
This includes roles in our offices that are located outwith Scotland which are the only roles where it is designated by the Scottish Government that role holders will live and work outside of Scotland for the duration of their posting.
Any person who meets the Civil Service Nationality requirements is eligible to apply for roles in the Scottish Government regardless of whether they are currently living in Scotland or elsewhere. Aside from the roles that are based in our workplaces that are located outwith Scotland, all other roles are advertised with a Scottish Government workplace located in Scotland. In line with our contracts of employment and hybrid working policy, the role holder is required to attend that workplace and/or to work with stakeholders in our communities in Scotland as necessary.
A limited number of employees have a home working contract due to specific individual reasons that are not universally applied to all staff within the same role. For example, as a reasonable adjustment for an individual employee under equalities legislation. However, this information is outwith the scope of this FOI request.
As there are no roles that fall within the categories that you set out in question 1, it follows that question 2 is not applicable.
