Information requested

You asked for source information on the number of CPO orders breached in 24/25, particularly in Edinburgh, Fife and East Lothian and whether these breaches led to a return to custody.

Response

Following clarification, you asked for a breakdown of community payback orders finished by reason for finishing and outcome for the most recent year of 2023-24, for the three council areas with the highest number of breach applications among orders which finished. This was Glasgow City, North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire for 2023-24. This information is below.

1. In many cases, the court decision did not have any need for further action for the local authority. The category “no further action for social work” covered instances where any further action did not require justice social work to support and the local authority were not advised by the court of any further penalty.

[z] in tables refers to data that is not applicable as information on outcome is only collected where the reason for finishing is either revocation or "other" reason.
