Information requested

I've been looking at the workforce statistics here: Scottish Government workforce information - gov.scot

However, I observe subjectively that there is a significant and disproportionate reduction in DDaT skilled staff in Health, particularly those with high levels of skill, e.g. senior staff.

Where would I find a breakdown of workforce by skills/professions and by directorate to establish whether my observations are correct?

Response

I enclose the information you requested, showing the distribution of the workforce by Profession and Directorate within DG Health and Social Care.

To illustrate change over time, such as we have it, I have included data from both December 2024 and September 2025. Data distributed by Profession is only available from the point at which our HR Management Information System, Oracle Cloud, went live in October 2024, so these dates are aligned to the first quarterly workforce publications following implementation.

This data set reflects both our contingent workforce and our directly employed workforce. There will be very slight differences in the numbers found within the attached data set when compared to the published statistics, as they take account of different categories of staff (e.g. those on career breaks).

There are also a small number of staff (both directly employed and contingent) for whom Professions data is not currently reportable.
