Reconviction rate statistics: FOI release
Information requested
I am seeking reconviction data for Scotland for the offender cohorts covering the financial years 2018/19, 2019/20, 2020/21 and 2021/22.
Specifically, I request the following information in relation to male offenders aged 60 and over, broken down into 5-year age bands (60–64, 65–69, 70–74, 75–79, 80+ where available):
1. Reconviction rates (and, if held, counts of offenders and reconvictions)
2. Broken down by index crime category, using the same classifications as published in the Scottish Government’s reconviction statistics
3. Further broken down by length of custodial sentence imposed for the index disposal, using the following categories: - Less than 4 years - 4 to 10 years - 10 years or more
If available, I would prefer the data to be provided in a machine-readable format such as Excel or CSV.
If any part of this request cannot be met due to disclosure control or data not being held in the requested format, I would be grateful if you could:
- Provide any subset of the data that can be disclosed, and/or - Advise whether the information is held in an alternative form or with different groupings.
If this request would exceed the cost limit, I would welcome advice on how it might be refined to fall within the limit.

I enclose a copy of most of the information you requested in the format you asked for.
The breakdown you requested by financial year, age group, crime and sentence length resulted in numbers that were too small to calculate reconviction rates. I have instead attached two tables of alternative breakdowns where the groups were large enough to calculate reconviction rates.
Table one is reconviction rates for Males aged 60-79 broken down by financial year and custodial sentence length. Table two is reconviction rates for Males aged 60-79 broken down by age group and custodial sentence length.
