Scottish Government employee statistics who have home addresses in England: FOI release

How many Scottish Government staff are registered to live in England? This figure as a percentage of total employees Of this figure, how many have moved there in the last year?
Response
We have interpreted “registered to live in England” as meaning staff who have an address in England recorded as their home address on our e-HR system. Data reflects the most recently available quarterly workforce stats, which were published in June 2024.
As at June 2024, there were 138 employees in Scottish Government Core with a home address in England. This data is taken from the same dataset that provides the Scottish Government's official workforce statistics, which as at June 2024 was 9,288. Therefore, as at June 2024, this figure as a percentage of total employees was 1.48%. Of these 138 staff, 56 are based at either: Scotland House, London; are in overseas postings; or are in off-shore Marine seafaring roles (where it is a feature of that labour market for the workforce to be resident in a range of different countries).
Of these 138 staff with a home address in England as at June 2024, 16 had addresses in Scotland as at June 2023. There are a variety of reasons why staff might relocate to an address in England, including relocation for roles based in Scotland House, London or for family reasons. Similarly, we also do not hold centrally information on relocation intentions for newly recruited staff who lived in England at the point of their recruitment. This is a dynamic situation and the data given is a snapshot on a particular day. For example, within the 138, a number of those staff have since relocated or moved back to Scotland from England.
