Road transport consumption statistics at regional level: FOI release

Data for the parameters in the year 2016 in 11 local authorities of "East Ayrshire, East Dunbartonshire , East Renfrewshire, Glasgow City, Inverclyde, North Ayrshire, North Lanarkshire, Renfrewshire, South Ayrshire, South Lanarkshire, and West Dunbartonshire-
1. Total annual passenger kilometres in private cars or, if not available, Average car/van occupancy.
2. Average road network speed (7day/24hour).
3. Private passenger transport energy use (litres of petrol, diesel and LPG).
Response
Taking each of your points in turn:
1. We do not hold information about passenger kilometres travelled by private cars. However, estimates for the total vehicle kilometres for the combined category of ‘cars and taxis’ are available at local authority level for 2016 through the Department for Transport’s website: Road traffic statistics - Download data (dft.gov.uk) (see ‘local authority traffic’ data file).
Estimates for car occupancy are available at local authority level in Table 6 of the Local Authority tables, released as part of our Transport and Travel in Scotland 2016 publication.
2. We do not hold information on the average road network speed.
3. The information we hold that is relevant to private passenger transport energy use is provided in the table below. This presents consumption in thousand tonnes of oil equivalent and is derived from the UK road transport energy consumption at regional and local authority level statistics published by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero. www.transport.
