Information requested

Speaking on the BBC’s Good Morning Scotland radio programme on 15th August 2024, Shona Robison said this about the newly elected government at Westminster: “And now we’ve got this new era of austerity and £22 billion of cuts.” Does the Scottish Government have any information to substantiate the claim that the new UK Government has announced £22 billion of cuts?

Response

The Cabinet Secretary for Finance and Local Government was making reference to the Public Spending Audit announced by the Chancellor of the Exchequer on 29 July. Details of the spending audit have been published by the UK Government and are available in the public domain, with further detail to follow at the UK Autumn Budget. Information about the UK Government’s Public Spending Audit is available here: Fixing the foundations: public spending audit 2024-25 - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk).
