How many people has the Scottish Government identified who will be automatically exonerated as a result of the Post Office (Horizon System) Offences (Scotland) Act?

The Justice Secretary said she would be writing to those affected to tell them their convictions have been quashed. How many people has the Justice Secretary written to tell them their convictions have been quashed?

Response

The answers to your questions are that as of 15 July 2024, no individuals had been formally identified as falling under the scope of the 2024 Act, and no letters had been issued.

All sub-postmasters in Scotland who were convicted of a relevant offence were automatically exonerated when the Post Office (Horizon System) Offences (Scotland) Act came into force on 14 June 2024. The Scottish Government will continue to work with partners to identify those exonerated by the legislation and will be writing to them shortly to notify them, and set out how to access the UK Government's Horizon Convictions Redress Scheme now that it is open.
