Information requested

For 2024 and 2025 I would be grateful if you could provide the following information -

1) The total number of pension requests completed in each of these years for NHS Scotland members retiring (not phased, return & return etc, just full retirement).

2) The average wait for these.

3) The range of these waits.

4) Number and % of those completed within: a) up to 2 months, b) 2-4 months, c) 4-6 months, and d) over six months.

5) All of these as a total and broken down into 14 territorial boards and, all Special Boards.

6) The total number of formal complaints/legal letters for those waiting to retire as a total and broken down into 14 territorial boards, and all Special Boards.

Response

1) 2024 - 8,945, 2025 - 8,587

2) Average wait time for 2024 – 2.23 months, average wait time for 2025 – 2.25 months

3) The range for 2024 – Lowest January 1.77 months and Highest August 2.56 months. The range for 2025 – Lowest December 2.06 months and Highest May 2.46 months

4) Our guidance requests that members complete their application 4 months in advance of their retirement date. Some members will submit their forms well in advance of this and others will be last minute. Therefore date of receipt is not a true indication towards completion dates, however, our MI record the number completed on time within the required Key Performance Indicator and our customer care team review all awards that have not been completed on time.

In 2024 the percentage of NHS awards completed and paid on time was – 99.77% In 2025 the percentage of NHS awards completed and paid on time was – 99.68%

5) We are unable to provide this information as although a report may be available it requires further development to ensure accuracy.

6) We are unable to provide this information broken down by individual boards.
