Information requested

You asked to be provided with the number of staff who have been regraded within the same role/job description between 01 January 2023 and the present day, broken down by grade and the grade that the staff have been regraded to. You wanted this to be broken down by Scottish Government Directorate also.

Response

In your request, you asked for information about Scottish Government Directorates and our response therefore covers the core directorates shown at Annex A.

A post can be regraded where:

a) over the course of time, the duties of the post evolve and that results in the staff member working at a higher level or;

b) a business area is restructured and extra duties are added to a post.

In both instances, however, the duties of the post must have changed for a post to be regraded. We do not, therefore, have any staff who have been regraded without their job description changing.

Under the Scottish Government’s resourcing policy, vacancies should be advertised wherever possible.

Where a post evolves over time and is regraded, the postholder can remain in post or the business area could choose to advertise.

Between 1 January 2023 and 5 February 2024, 31 posts have been regraded.
