Why you authorise vessels to land in our ports with no fish quota? The Lord Miles and Sir Miles landed in Scrabster on 27.12.23 with no quota why was this allowed?
Response
The fishing vessels Lord Miles and Sir Miles are both UK registered vessels and as such are not required to meet NEAFC Port State Control regulations when landing into a UK port. Therefore, no authorisation was required for the landings by these two vessels into Scrabster on 27 December 2023, or any other UK port. They do though have to comply with all other relevant requirements, such as providing 4 hours prior notification of landing, and completing an electronic logbook each 24 hours period.
As explained previously, operators of vessels do not always allocate quota against specific vessels, choosing to allocate it against a “Dummy vessel”. This allows quota to be distributed or rented between different vessels. The UK Fixed Quota Allocation Registry does not record these transactions. It is not possible to identify all the quota available to a vessel from the FQA register.
