Information requested

How many charging points for electric cars has Charging Point Scotland built (the overall figure, and breakdown by financial year). How much has been spent on installing charging points in Scotland (the overall figure, and break down by financial year). Any correspondence between Charging Point Scotland and Transport Scotland/Scottish Government regarding meeting the target of 30,000 charging points by 2030.

Response

1. Please see table below - Table 1.

ChargePlace Scotland (CPS) do not build or install charge points. Charge points on CPS are procured and installed by organisations who have received grant funding from the Scottish Government. A condition of the grant funding is that their charge point(s) must be commissioned onto the CPS network. Please note there are a few charge points included in the CPS install figures that have been commercially funded (not SG funded).

Column 1: Total charge points for public and non-public (depot, business and fleet) charge points.

Column 2: Total publicly available charge points only.

2. Please see table below - Table 2.

Transport Scotland do not hold information on the total investment made by all organisations and businesses to develop public EV charging infrastructure in Scotland, for instance, commercial investments that take place in Scotland that aren't part of the CPS network. Figures provided below present the grant funding amounts committed by the Scottish Government each year to enable installation of EV charging infrastructure, however these figures do not include funding for the installation of charge points for EC buses.

Transport Scotland also support domestic and business charge point installs, totals can be found in the EST website by using the links below.

3.

There has been no correspondence between ChargePlace Scotland (CPS) and Transport Scotland/Scottish Government regarding a target of 30,000 charge points by 2030. This is not a Scottish Government target but a figure suggested by the Climate Change Committee as a potential target.
