Response

Information on the number of chartered teachers in Scotland is provided in tables 2.4, 3.4 and 4.4. of the teacher census supplementary statistics for 2021, available on the Scottish Government website: https://www.gov.scot/publications/teacher-census-supplementary-statistics/. This shows that, in 2021, there were a total of 597 full-time equivalents working across primary, secondary and special schools. Data on the salaries of Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers staff is collected in the unpublished Staff FTE Pay data collection (see here for further information). The definitions used vary across this collection and the teacher census, however the most recent 2022 collection showed that 42% of Chartered Teachers were at the top of the payscale in Autumn 2022.
