In financial year 2022/2023 there was no marketing spend by the Scottish Government on COVID-19 vaccines as this marketing activity was delivered by Public Health Scotland. The following table provides the breakdown of the costs for COVID-19 briefings, split by financial year.`

Financial Year Cost 2020/2021 £25,586.67 2021/2022 £5,719.80 2022/2023 £0 Total £31,306.47

.The only external cost incurred for the briefings was for British Sign Language (BSL) translation. These costs were incurred regardless of whether the former First Minister was in attendance.

£1.12 million was paid to Edinburgh University in the period 2020-2023. However, the Scottish Government does not track or categorise expenditure on the basis of 'advice' and therefore while this spend relates to COVID-19 it is not limited to 'advice'. The majority of the expenditure, £1.062 million, relates to COVID-19 research projects that were awarded after an open competition by the Chief Scientist Office. No fee was paid to Public Health Experts for making TV or radio appearances representing the Scottish Government or distributing Scottish Government advice.
