The need for Low Emission Zones (LEZs): FOI release

What information was presented to the Scottish Government which conclusively demonstrated the need for the imposition of the Low Emission Zones (LEZs) in Scotland?
Response
In order for a LEZ scheme to be made, a proposal to make the scheme must be prepared by each local authority for approval by the Scottish Ministers. This is a requirement of Section 10 of the Transport (Scotland) Act 2019.
The local authority LEZ scheme proposal must include the full details of the scheme for Scottish Ministers to review and approve, including the location and area of the proposed scheme, the date the scheme comes into effect, the types of vehicles to which the LEZ applies, the scheme’s objectives and the grace periods.
