Response
Education Scotland’s annual programme of inspection operates on an academic year (AY) which runs from 1 August to 31 July each year. The information you have requested is provided for each academic year at Appendix 1 attached.
Notes
The numbers provided are for inspections that have taken place and the inspection report has been published on Education Scotland’s website.
The numbers of inspections include only the original inspection. They do not include further inspections which have taken place as a result of the outcome of an original inspection.
Inspections of schools which provide all-through education (i.e. primary and secondary) are counted as a
single inspection.
Inspections of independent schools include post-registration inspections and special inspections under Section 66 (1) of the Education (Scotland) Act 1980.
Please note that due to the COVID-19 pandemic the routine programme of early learning and childcare and school inspections did not take place during the period 13 March 2020 to August 2022.
