Information requested

With reference to 202200323769. This notes “ Responsibility for paying for state pensions would rest with the Scottish Government.” I would like to request any information clarifying if responsibility in this context means simply the administrative responsibility of making these payments or the full responsibility which would including funding the payment of such pensions from the Scottish budget, or if there is an expectation of pass through funding from the remaining UK state.

Response

As Scottish Government have stated previously, future Scottish governments would be responsible for the pensions system in an independent Scotland – this would include funding State Pension payments from the Scottish budget. The Scottish Government is developing further material which will allow the people of Scotland to make an informed choice about Scotland’s future. This will cover matters including pensions. The Building a New Scotland series will continue to be published at the following link: www.gov.scot/newscotland. About FOI
