Information on the Scottish Government's fleet of cars: FOI release
Information requested
1. How much does it cost to maintain the Scottish Government's fleet of cars each year?
2. Breakdown of these costs per year from 2018-2022?
3. How much has it cost to fuel the cars up from 2018 to 2022? And what has been used to fuel them?
4. How much has it cost to provide a driver for the trips from 2018 to 2022? Total for each year and breakdown if possible?
Response
We wrote to you on 26 July 2022 and asked for clarification on the information requested. You responded on 26 July 2022 and confirmed the information requested is specifically for the Ministerial car service and not the overall Scottish Government fleet.
Exemptions apply to some of the information you have requested. The Scottish Government does not record a breakdown of the drivers’ cost for individual journeys, as there is no need to do so. Drivers often cover multiple customers throughout the day therefore calculation of individual journey costs is not undertaken.
We are also unable to provide a yearly breakdown on fuel category spend due to the way individual fuel transactions are presently processed and recorded. This is a formal notice under section 17 (1) of FOISA that the Scottish Government does not have some of the information you have requested.

(1) The costs include the purchase of all fuels (diesel, petrol and electricity) and also other consumables (oil and screen wash).
(2) Staff costs include costs of drivers, admin support salaries and employers contributions.
