Workplace parking levies: FOI release
Information requested
1. As of July 1 this year, how many local authorities have implemented the workplace parking levy? Ideally this would be in list form.
2. As of July 1, if is data you hold, how much has each local authority earned via the workplace parking levy?
Response
The answer to your question is that no local authorities in Scotland have implemented a workplace parking licensing (WPL) scheme as of 1 July 2022; and therefore no revenue from a WPL scheme has been raised by local authorities.
The Workplace Parking Licensing (Scotland) Regulations 2022 came into force on 4 March 2022; supporting guidance for local authorities was published on 30 June 2022, in line with the commitment set out in the Climate Change Plan update: monitoring report 2021. Local authorities have statutory obligations set out within the Transport (Scotland) Act 2019 and the 2022 Regulations before implementing a scheme, including consulting those who are likely to be impacted by a scheme and undertaking an assessment of the likely impact of schemes.
Once a local authority has made a scheme, they are required to publish a copy of the scheme on their website, as well as an annual statement of accounts. Therefore the information you have requested will be publicly available in the future once a local authority has implemented a scheme, should they chose to so.
