Reaching 100% (R100) broadband statistics for East Lothian: FOI release
Information requested
How many properties in “RURAL” East Lothian have been connected to Broadband under the government’s Superfast Rollout Programme (R100)? What is this as a percentage of “RURAL” properties?
Response
I enclose a copy of the information you requested. This is based on data held at 20 January 2022. The Reaching 100% (R100) programme is being delivered through three strands of activity – the £600 million R100 contracts, the R100 Scottish Broadband Voucher Scheme (R100 SBVS) and commercial deployment. We used the Scottish Government’s Urban Rural Classification to determine which premises would be considered “rural” for the purposes of your request. The data provided in this response focusses solely on premises that fall into the following classifications: Class 6 – Accessible Rural Areas Class 7 – Remote Rural Areas Class 8 – Very Remote Rural Areas Further information on these classification can be found at the following link: Scottish Government Urban Rural Classification 2016 - gov.scot (www.gov.scot). There are a total of 17,887 premises which we identify as falling within areas considered as “rural” East Lothian. Of these premises, 12 have been connected via the R100 contracts, 10 have been connected through the R100 SBVS and 14,787 through commercial deployment. In percentage terms this means that 82.8% of premises in areas classified as “rural” East Lothian have been connected to superfast broadband under the R100 programme. Although R100 contract build and commercial deployment will continue to deliver access to connections, the availability of the R100 SBVS meant that everyone could access a superfast broadband connection by the end of 2021.
