Information on national induction programme for teachers: FOI release

How much teachers are paid (in relation with the standard salaries) when they are participating as an inducted teacher? Do they work full time when in an induction program? Whether they work half time and the other half time they receive training? Are the mentors included as standard staff or are they offered as an extra staff to the school? Are there any specific features at the schools that participate as induction schools?

The answer to your questions are detailed below Q.1 How much teachers are paid (in relation with the standard salaries) when they are participating as an inducted teacher? A.1 Probationer teachers are paid £27,498 with the salary for a post-probation teacher starting at £32,994 . The terms and conditions of all teachers are determined by the Scottish Negotiating Committee for Teachers. Whether they work half time and the other half time they receive training? A.2 Probationer teachers have a reduced class contact time of 0.82 Full Time Equivalent. The remaining 0.18 FTE is to allow probationers to continue to develop their skills and knowledge against the Standard for Full Registration. Q.3 Are the mentors included as standard staff or are they offered as an extra staff to the school? A.3 The Scottish Government offer financial support to each local authority to cover the costs of mentoring. This is 0.1 FTE of the probationer salary for each probationer the authority/school has. This allows authorities and schools to free up experienced staff to take on the role of a mentor. Q.4 Are there any specific features at the schools that participate as induction schools? A.4 All local authority schools are able to participate in the Induction programme and support probationers provided they can offer a suitable post with high quality mentoring support. About FOI
