Funds allocated for improvement to physical and mental health: FOI release
Information requested
£20 million was committed for the summer of 2021 to improve physical and mental health, address issues of social isolation and lack of access to normal activities. Please can you provide: How much of the £20million was spent How many young people were reached using the funding.
Response
The following funding was provided to Local Authorities, agreed by COSLA Leaders, in April 2021 in line with Local Authority funding formula, with the remaining monies provided to 18 National Partners, which was agreed in June 2021, as set out below. This funding has been committed by Local Authorities and National Partners in order to deliver the aims, objectives and outcomes of the Summer Offer.

£295,000 was provided for the national communications campaign on the Summer Offer to ensure children, young people and families were aware and able to take advantage of the activities available as well as providing free online resources through Parent Club. £55,000 was also provided to support the national evaluation of the Offer which will help inform the Scottish Government’s approach to Covid-19 recovery. The Summer Offer has sought to support the children and young people most impacted by Covid-19, including: 1. children from low income households; 2. children from those priority family groups identified in the Tackling Child Poverty Delivery Plan: larger families; families with a disabled child or adult; young mothers; families with children under one; and minority ethnic families; 3. children from families who have been shielding during the pandemic and whose ability to engage in activities and socialise will have been very limited; 4. children with a disability or additional support need; 5. care experienced children and young people; 6. young carers; 7. children in need of protection; 8. children supported by a child’s plan and 9. children who have undergone significant transitions during lockdown or will experience them this year, including starting in ELC, starting primary school, moving to secondary school and leaving school. As part of the evaluation of the Offer which is not yet complete, Local Authorities and National Partners will be providing further information on their delivery of the Offer which may, in line with safeguarding policies, provide details on the number of children, young people and families who have accessed the services they have provided through the Offer. An evaluation of the national marketing campaign is also underway.
