Information requested

How many meetings were held by government officials about the Scots and Gaelic language between 30 April 2025 and 30 August 2025?

Response

As required under FOISA, enquiries were made across the Gaelic and Scots Division and with other relevant Scottish Government Directorates to identify meetings held by officials during this period where Gaelic and Scots language was the main topic of discussion, including discussions relating to the Scottish Languages Bill (now Scottish Languages Act 2025), which was at Stage 3 of the parliamentary process during the time-frame stated.

As a result of this exercise, a total of 66 meetings were identified as being in scope. This number reflects official-level meetings (e.g. with external stakeholders, Ministers, MSPs or officials in other Directorates or Government agencies/departments), but excludes informal, internal team or staff meetings, which typically cover a range of topics and do not constitute discrete meetings about the subject matter requested. This response reflects the outcome of reasonable and proportionate searches.
