Cost projections for security at COP26 climate change conference: FOI release
Information requested
"The total cost projections for security that to include policing and private security measures being paid for by the Scottish Government."
Response
The Scottish Government has made clear the expectation that all costs related to holding the main COP26 summit in Glasgow will be borne by the UK Government. This includes funding for police, fire and ambulance services which are essential to both prepare for and deliver a safe, secure and successful event. The Scottish Government has negotiated a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the UKG to mitigate the financial impact of COP26 in Glasgow. The UK government has publicly stated its agreement to work on this basis and both governments continue work alongside Police Scotland and other blue light services ahead of the event. Plans are in progress to deliver the Scottish Government’s programme of events, including procuring and contracting services, at a principal Scotland Stakeholder Hub venue, complemented by spaces and venues both in and outside of the Blue Zone. This programme of events at COP26 will be covered by the Scottish Government’s budget and will not be reimbursed by the UK Government’s Cabinet Office. The overall financial costs to deliver the Scottish Government’s programme of events will be finalised and proactively released after the event. About FOI
